Photographer arrested for piracy

Delhi Police conducted a raid, on the basis of a tip-off, at a photo studio in Masjid More area in south Delhi on Tuesday, and arrested one person for selling pirated software. The studio is called G K Studio.

'The arrestee was identified as Satya Prakash (37), a photographer by profession. He was copying software in the studio and then selling them at cheaper rates than the original,' said a police official, adding that Prakash has been booked under the Copyright Act. Investigation is on to identify more people involved in the racket.

Most people use pirated software for their personal computers. According to Business Software Alliance (BSA), only one-third of the software is genuine. Pirated copies of even Adobe and Microsoft are available in the market, which are sold in much greater numbers than the the original.

As per BSA, Software piracy is unauthorised copying or distribution of copyrighted software. This can be done by copying, downloading, sharing, selling, or installing multiple copies onto personal or work computers. In Delhi, Nehru Place is the main joint where almost all pirated software is available.
