Passengers thwart minor’s trafficking, one held

A minor has been rescued from being trafficked following active intervention of some passengers of railway at Liluah Station in Howrah.

On Tuesday morning a passenger saw the minor girl sitting with a woman on the platform at Liluah Station. Suspicion rose when the man found the woman scolding the girl and forcing her to remain seated at one place. He gathered some more passengers and approached the woman.

Before the woman could have said anything, the girl burst into tears and claimed that she was being forced to go with the woman, who was later arrested by the police.

The woman initially claimed that the girl is her niece and she was taking her to her own house at Bandel in Hooghly. The minor girl, however, told the people that the woman was lying.

The girl claimed herself to be a resident of Deganga in North 24-Parganas. But she failed to say that by which route the woman had brought her to Liluah Station. Police came to know that the accused had brought the girl after assuring better jobs in Kolkata. But instead of taking her to the city the woman came to Liluah, which is just one station away from Howrah Station. Police suspect that the woman had a plan to take the girl somewhere outside the state by taking a train from Howrah Station. The woman later confessed when asked by the police that she was taking the girl to engage her in a job of domestic help.
