Pacheco complains of 'chest pain', after spending night in jail

Former Goa minister Fransisco <g data-gr-id="23">Miccky</g> Pacheco, who surrendered before a local court on Monday and was sent to jail, complained of uneasiness and chest pain on Tuesday, following which he was taken to a hospital. However, he was sent back to jail, after medical check-up at the hospital, officials said.

Pacheco, leader of the Goa Vikas Party and MLA from Nuvem, had gone "missing" after his conviction was upheld by the Supreme Court two months ago for slapping a junior engineer in 2006. He has been sentenced to six months prison term.

After his surrender before a local court, Pacheco was taken to Sada Sub Jail on Monday, where he spent a night in cell number 14.

The authorities of Sada prison near Vasco said Pacheco complained of uneasiness and chest pain on Tuesday morning, after which he was referred to Cottage Hospital at Chicalim village. "From there, he was taken to the Goa Medical College and Hospital for further test. After conducting the medical examination, Pacheco was again sent to jail," the authorities said.

The former minister had to resign from the post after the Supreme Court refused to stay his conviction awarded to him by the Sessions Court. The Supreme Court in April had dismissed his appeal against the July 2014 Bombay High Court verdict.  An FIR was lodged in July 2006 by a junior engineer of the government's Electrical Department, against Pacheco, alleging that the politician abused and slapped him.
