Over 6,000 men fined for boarding ladies coach this year

According to data provided by the CISF, in the year 2013, around 14,298 male commutes were de-boarded and fined for travelling in ladies compartment.

The figures have reduced drastically in 2014. In 2014, so far 6,452 male commuters have been fined. The action was taken under the special drive launched by CISF known as ‘Operatoin Kali’.

According to a CISF official, in the year 2013, an amount of Rs 35,74,500 was collected as fine from male passengers, while in year 2014 (till September 19) Rs 16,13,000 has been collected.

‘It is observed that large numbers of male commuters are driven out daily from the coaches reserved for ladies. On an average, 25 to 50 male commuters are penalised everyday. Any male passenger is fined for Rs 250 for travelling in ladies’ coach,’ said Hemendra Singh, CISF spokesperson.

He further added, ‘Flying squads conduct surprise checks almost every day to catch errant commuters. Delhi Metro also distributes leaflets with its helpline numbers and those of nearby police stations to commuters, especially women.
