Our team lacked football intelligence: Constantine

“We lacked football intelligence in key moments of the game and that cost us,” Constantine said after the match. India came into the game on a the back of a similar result last week against Oman, who though faced stiff competition <g data-gr-id="42">form</g> the South Asian nation.

Sunil Chhetri managed a consolation goal in the last minute of the game after Brandon McDonald put the hosts ahead in the 38th minute and Travis <g data-gr-id="53">Nicklaw</g> doubled the advantage in the 62nd minute at the GFA National Training Center.

“We are disappointed. On <g data-gr-id="50">Tuesday</g>  the difference was very much visible between a group of players who have the best football education and the rest. 75 <g data-gr-id="52">per cent</g> of the players who represented Guam have been born and brought up in the US and that made a huge difference,” Constantine added.

Ranked 174 in the world to India’s 141, this was only their second World Cup qualifying win, the result coming less than a week after Guam’s 1-0 victory over Turkmenistan in Group D.
Constantine, however, dismissed that jet lag was ever a factor.

“We have been here for three days. This is international football and you have to deal with it. The time zone was not a factor at all.

“Right from the outset, I had expected a tough game. The advantage which Guam <g data-gr-id="46">has,</g> is to pick American based players and they made good use of them.”

Constantine’s counterpart Gary White sounded happy with six points on <g data-gr-id="32">board</g>.“From the very outset, we knew that this would be a difficult place for anybody to come. It was a tough and competitive game and it feels nice to be at the top of the Group. This is not the same Guam who used to play some 15-16 years back,” White said about the team.

Chhetri IS FIRST Indian to score 50 INT’L goals
Prolific striker Sunil Chhetri on Tuesday  became the first Indian footballer to score 50 international goals during his team's 2018 World Cup qualifying match against Guam here on <g data-gr-id="91">Tuesday .</g> His feat, though, came in a losing cause, as India suffered their second successive defeat in the preliminary joint qualification second round. "Number of goals never matter for me. I never keep track of feats.
