One killed, 49 injured in road accidents

Around 48 people were injured out of which four of them in critical condition after a bus in which they were travelling overturned at East Sathgachi area in Kalna on Sunday morning, police said.

The injured passengers were taken to Kalna sub- divisional hospital while four of them were later 
shifted to Imambara Sadar Hospital as their condition deteriorated. 

Police said a Mayapur bound bus from Singur lost its control and overturned when the driver applied sudden brake to save a motor van that came on its way. The bus driver could not see the motor van due to fog. When the drive tried to stop the vehicle, he lost control over it and as a result it overturned and fell into a nearby ditch. 

The local residents immediately reached the spot and joined hands in the rescue operation. 

In another incident, an accident occurred at Manikchawk area of Malda on Sunday morning in which a 10-year-old boy died after being hit by a truck. The victim, Sintu Seikh, was a student of class VI of Mathurapur BSS High School. 

Sintu’s friend Heydaiad Ali, who is also a student of class VI, was injured in the accident. He was admitted to Manikchawk village hospital.  Police said that incident took place when the two boys were riding on a bicycle. 

The truck overturned after knocking them down. Police have seized the vehicle but the driver had fled the scene after the incident.
