Officers pay for allowing illegal construction

Two engineers and a clerk, who allegedly allowed illegal construction of two towers in Amrapali village in Indirapuram, have been suspended by the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA).

It has also sealed the towers and issued show cause notice to the builder. GDA is also in the process of registering a police complaint against developers for violating the affidavit submitted to it in 2010.

'The tower L and K in Nyaya Khand-II of Indirapuram in Ghaziabad were found to be flouting the norms. A convenience shop and landscaped green area were supposed to have been developed in these sites. But, in connivance with engineers concerned, the developers constructed 170 illegal flats. I have ordered to seal the illegal construction, stop the ongoing construction and place a police complaint against developers,' said Santosh Kumar Gupta, Vice Chairman of GDA.

The buildings have been constructed by Ultra Home Construction Pvt Ltd. GDA has suspended engineers J B Singh and K K Shukla and clerk Sanjeev Bhatnagar, deployed in the area during the construction.

The suspension of engineers Usman Ali and Hariom Gupta, who had been transferred from GDA have also been recommended to the state government. GDA has also recommended the suspension of P K Sharma, Assistant Engineer- II, who has been attached to Vice Chairman's office. The layout for 32,000 sqm area was issued in 2005 and No Objection Certificate (NOC) of fire department was approved in 2010.

The developers did not deposit the fee for NoC, amounting Rs 6.51 crore. 'We will recover the fee with 18 per cent interest for which we are writing to district magistrate,' added Yadav.

The multi-storey L tower has 17 floors and 68 flats while tower K has 102 flats in 17 floors.  According to GDA, the director of the company Ajay Kumar had submitted in 2010 that the company would not construct anything beyond the layout, but had violated the affidavit. The authority is also investigating the other multi-storey buildings in its jurisdiction.

Efforts were made to contact Anil Sharma, M D of Amrapali Group, but to no avail.
