Now, online BJP volunteers for door-to-door campaign

As the role of social media is gaining prominence among the political parties, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which already has a substantial presence on the virtual world has now planned to recruit about 1,000 volunteers. These 1,000 volunteers will be recruited in about 25 major cities like Delhi, Bangalore, Jaipur, Bhopal among other national capitals which have a presence on the web world.

‘We got in touch with the volunteers through facebook, twitter and now these volunteers who have expressed their will to work for the party will be now assigned various task in the run up to the general elections next year,’ informed national head of BJP’s IT cell Arvind Gupta. The volunteers have been divided into two sections – online and offline.

The offline volunteers have been instructed to start door to door campaigning in which they have been asked to ensure that an eligible voter has a voter ID card and if not then the volunteers have been entrusted with the task of providing one. The party has already kick started this campaign in Delhi, where assembly elections are due later this year. The BJP had held a meeting of its Delhi volunteers last week.

On the other hand the online volunteers have been asked to push party’s polices and agenda on blogs, facebook and twitter among the other social media platforms. The BJP has been investing heavily on social media with the party recently launching a website India272.com and Jansamvad2014.in, where people have been asked for their feedback and suggestions.
