Now, click a ‘Selfie with Gandhi’ at just Rs 20

The wait is over for Delhiites as the much-awaited trade fair is all set to start from Saturday. At the India International Trade Fair (IITF), which is scheduled to be inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee, visitors will get a chance to know about Khadi in detail at the pavilion of Khadi Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

In a first, the KVIC has taken a ‘premier slot’ in the pavilion that showcases the achievements of the Ministry of Micro Small &Medium Enterprises at the fair. In a move aimed at adding to the exchequer of the KVIC, there are innovative plans to make people conscious about Khadi and its components but at a cost. The KVIC’s initiative will help visitors to try their hands on the charkha (weaving machine). Also the visitors will get an opportunity to get their pictures clicked with a statue of Mahatma Gandhi. The plan christened as ‘Selfie with Gandhi’ is expected to be show stealer, even though visitors will have to pay Rs 20 for every click. The charges for other items have also been fixed at Rs 20.

“It’s an innovative move to teach people about our depleting legacy. We are just trying to create awareness among people, particularly children to understand how Khadi reached to this stage. The amount that KVIC is charging for these services is very nominal,” a senior KVIC official said.

The KVIC is targeting to increase their sales figures from last year’s Rs 4 crore to Rs 8 crore in this year’s trade fair, which is likely to witness a huge footfall every day.
