The police are yet to arrest anyone in connection with the incident in which three members of a family were beaten up for protesting against selling spurious liquor at Malda.

On Wednesday, three persons including a minor boy were beaten up by some goons when they had protested against setting up a den to sell spurious liquor at Baikunthapur in Malda. All three were admitted to Malda Medical College and Hospital with severe injuries.

Police on Thursday spoke to Sukhen Mondal and his parents Anita Mondal and Ashim Mondal. The investigating officers came to know that the trio had protested against setting up of the den to sell liquor as their son has grown up and the people who visit the place create a lot of disturbance in the area after consuming liquor that hampers their son’s study.

The police came to know that three of the six accused persons were local residents and they had rivalry with the victim’s family. As a result, they had started beating them up as soon as the accused raised protest against setting up of the den.

The police conducted raid at different places in search of the accused, but couldn’t find them out. They had also interrogated the accused’s family members but they too failed to give any clue about the miscreants.

Police pickets have been posted at the spot considering that local people may attack the houses of the youths from the locality those were involved with the incident.
