UP gets whopping 9 cabinet ministers in new Modi govt

New Delhi: As the second tenure of Narendra Modi-led government taking shape gradually, it would now take a special interest in implementing his much sought after policy – minimum government and maximum governance – while finalizing his new team.

On Thursday, a total of 58 ministers took the oath, while in 2014, a whopping 75 ministers took oath for PM Modi's first government. This year, as many as 42 ministers didn't find berth who were either opted out or were not considered for the ministry. One instance is Anant Kumar who got expired untimely.

In this exercise, some of the states which produced spectacular results were not accommodated according to the strength of the Member of Parliament.

A source in the know of the development pointed out that this time Modi was not much bothered about the number of the state performances but gave much attention to the individuals who have good track records in their professional duties.

Keeping an eye to the upcoming Assembly election in Maharashtra, a total number of eight ministers were taken in the Cabinet. Although the BJP has given a top priority in West Bengal and got 18 MPs, only two ministers could find births in the Cabinet. One of them was former minister Babul Supriyo and another Debasri Choudhry is first-timer MP. The reason was that most of the MPs are newcomers. Also, a senior leader like Surinder Sing Aluhwalia was dropped this time.

Uttar Pradesh got the highest numbers of cabinet birth at nine. The state has produced 62 lawmakers. Next was Maharashtra to get highest cabinet birth. Apart from West Bengal, nine MPs got elected from Assam but it got only one junior minister. Delhi BJP had shown a spectacular result by winning all seats but it got only one cabinet minister.

In Punjab, BJP and its allies won four seats including Hardeep Singh Puri, who was contested from Amritsar but couldn't find a berth

in the cabinet. Puri continued as MoS (I) and Badal as a cabinet.

In both Gujarat and Rajasthan, BJP swept in all the seats but got three and four berths in the cabinet respectively.

Amit Shah is now the Home minister from Gujrat and PM is from UP. Karnataka was rewarded with 3 cabinet berths and one junior minister as BJP got 25 seats from the states. Three cabinet Ministers, one Independent charge and one Minister of state find berths from Bihar where BJP won all 17 seats they had contested.

JD(U) decided not to join the cabinet even though they have also won in 16 seats out of 17 they had contested. In MP, BJP won 28 seats and four were given births including two cabinet ministers.

Though Tamil Nadu did not give any seat to BJP the state finds an important portfolio in External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. AIADMK had contested along with BJP in the state but not given a place in the Union Cabinet creates a lot of speculation about the future political scenario.

Eight MPs were elected from the Odhisa, and one cabinet minister was taken. But Dharmendra Pradhan, who now got Oil Ministry was an MP from Madhya Pradesh.

In Jharkhand, 11 MPs were elected and two cabinet berths were given to them including former minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi who is from the Upper house. Ten MPs were elected from Haryana but not a single cabinet minister was given. One Independent charge and one junior minister could find a berth in the cabinet.

Jammu and Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala (no member elected), and Goa got one berth each in the cabinet. Kerala got an important portfolio in the Ministry of External affairs as MOS.
