TMC to take up closure of UP slaughterhouses in Upper House

Trinamool Congress (TMC) will raise the issues of unemployment, business, right to work, freedom of work, freedom of livelihood in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand in Rajya Sabha on Friday.

The party has given a notice in the upper house of the Parliament to discuss the duty of government to uphold such issues according to the constitution of India in these states during the Zero Hour.

In terms of 'Right to Work' according to the Article 39 urges "The State to ensure that "the citizens, men and women equally, have the right to an adequate means to livelihood", and that "there is equal pay for equal work for both men and women." Further, Article 41 stresses that "the state, shall within the limits of its economic capacity and development, make effective provision for securing right to work." That states the right to work is closely related to other basic rights such as the right to life, the right to food and the right to education. Article 21 of Indian constitution secures two rights:1) Right to life, 2) Right to personal liberty. The article states that, "No person shall be deprived of his life or personal liberty except according to procedure established by law."

At the same time the reports show that the recent crackdown on slaughterhouses has affected the revenue and robs millions of jobs. It has affected allied industries and an important revenue stream for small farmers.
