TDP attacks Centre for denying steel plant in Kadapa

New Delhi: Attacking BJP for ignoring the demands of Andhra Pradesh, TDP MP Galla Jaydev on Thursday said that the BJP's double standards exposed in setting up the steel plant in Kadapa district as promised in Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (APR) Act.

"Modi – Shah regime has been doing these misleading, delaying, denying, confusing, colluding, coercive tactics for the last four years", Jaydev alleged while talking to reporters here on Thursday.

"The APR Act 2014 mentions that SAIL would examine the feasibility of setting up of an integrated steel plant in Kadapa district within six months and in December 2014, SAIL submitted that setting up of a steel plant in Kadapa is not feasible. Later, when we resisted and demanded the Centre to fulfil the promises made in the APR act, the Centre constituted a taskforce on December 7, 2016 to relook the issue," the TDP leader said.

"Till date, the taskforce hasn't submitted its report and on Wednesday, the Centre filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that steel plant in Kadapa is not feasible by citing the old 2014 SAIL report, which shows the intentions of the BJP," he added.

"During the fifth taskforce meeting that happened on December 27, 2017, MECON in its report had said that steel plant is feasible as 110 MT of iron ore was discovered in Anantapur district, adjoining the Kadapa district," he said.

"On one side, the Centre told the top court that steel plant is not feasible, while on the other hand, Andhra Pradesh BJP state president Kanna Lakshmi Narayana said that Centre is considering setting up the plant in Kadapa," the TDP leader said.
