Soldier dies, 3 injured in accident near Shimla

Shimla: An army jawan, identified as Rajesh, 35, died while three others including driver Nagappa B Masabi, injured when a military truck skidded off the road and rolled down into a 100-foot-deep gorge in Himachal Pradesh on Friday.

Superintendent of Police (Shimla) Omapati Jamwal said accident took place near Kufri. The soldiers were on their way to Jhakri from Ambala.

"The truck fell into the gorge between Galu and Lambidhar," Jamwal said, informing that exact cause of the accident is not known.

Rajesh, son of Sohan Lal, hailed from village Gulabbari in Jaipur district.

The injured have been taken to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) here for their treatment.

Two other injured included B K Ray from Patna (Bihar) and Suranjan Tutti, who hailed from Andhra Pradesh.

A case has been registered at the Theog police station, the SP added.

Shimla which has already been facing incessant rains and landslides, has already been left with 28 deaths during past five days.

Some eye witnesses said the bad road condition could possibly be caused of the accident

There is huge movement of the apple trucks from Shimla and other parts of Himachal Pradesh that also results in bad road conditions.
