New Delhi: As many as 11,47,386 beneficiaries have received Rs 271 point 66 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY).
They are beneficiaries of the pan-India rollout by the Union Government of PMMVY in all districts
of the country from January 1, 2017. As per approved norms towards maternity benefit under Janani
Suraksha Yojana (JSY) eligible beneficiaries get Rs 5,000 and the remaining cash incentive
after institutional delivery so that on an average, a woman gets Rs 6,000.
The number of beneficiaries enrolled under the PMMVY has increased to 22,04,182. So far, Rs 2,048.59
crore has been sanctioned to all 36 states/UTs under the scheme of which Rs 2,048.40 crore has been
released till date.
The payment has been made to expectant and new mothers across the country.
Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Sanjay Gandhi launched the implementation guidelines,
the software for roll out of the PMMVY-Common Application Software (PMMVY- CAS) and its user manual
on September 1, 2017.
PMMVY is being implemented in collaboration with state governments.
Maternity benefits under PMMVY are available to all pregnant women & lactating mothers (PW&LM)
except those in regular employment with the central government or state government or Public
Sector Undertaking or those who are in receipt of similar benefits under any law for the time being in force, for first living child of the family as normally, the first pregnancy of a woman exposes her to new kind of challenges and stress factors. The scheme aims at providing partial compensation for the wage loss in terms of cash incentives so that the woman can take adequate rest before and after delivery of the first living child; and the cash incentives provided would lead to improved health seeking behaviour amongst the pregnant women and lactating mothers.
