Prez to honour the 'mother' of Yoga Guru on Woman's Day

On Women's Day, 2017, the President of India will honour 97-year-old V Nananmmal of Tamil Nadu who has been practicing and teaching Yoga since the age of nine years.

She has been followed by of her family members who are trained Yoga teachers with youngest being her 13 years old great granddaughter Shri.

"All our students have their independent Yoga centers in China, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia. So far, we have produced over 628 trained Yoga teachers," said Balakrishana (58) her second son who is heading Ozone Yoga, the academy founded by his father in 1972. "The students of this academy have won gold medals in 96 international Yoga Competitions. She has taught Yoga in different cities of Tamil Nadu besides Bangalore, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands," added Balkrishana.

He also stated that his mother very enthusiastic regarding the award ceremony. "Even at this age, she teaches Yoga on a daily basis for three batches. This award will be boosting our confidence," said Balakrishana. Tagged as 'the mother of Yoga' in her village, Nananmmal had first participated in an international Yoga competition in 2003.
