Over 41L rly passengers use app

New Delhi: Over 41 lakh railway passengers have so far used 'Utsonmobile' app to book unreserved tickets, railways officials said on Tuesday.

This android based compatible app was launched by Indian railways last year in order to provide convenience of booking or cancelling of unreserved tickets. The app, called 'UTS on Mobile', will be available free on the Android and Windows platforms.

While expressing satisfaction over the gaining popularity of the app, TP Singh, General Manager, Northern Railway, said due to the intensive campaign undertaken to sensitize the rail users in the past several months, the passenger engagement on the App has gone up as 41.14 Lakh.

He also said the passenger earning by tickets bought through the App was 6.80 crore in past less than six months.

As the awareness about the App will increase though the promotional drives and word of mouth, ticketing will become more and more convenient, paperless and digital.

Northern Railway had already launched several promotional drives to create awareness about the App. Helpdesks were set up at many prominent stations manned by the personnel of Commercial Department of NR, who not only educated the passengers but also helped them download the App and use it.
