Oppn to push for discussion on job, role of Governor in House

New Delhi: The opposition parties will take up important issues like price hike, agrarian distress, unemployment and the role of Governor this week in the Parliament.

During an all-party meeting chaired by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday, the opposition party leaders requested the Speaker to allow them to discuss these issues under Rule 193 of the Lower House of the Parliament.

Sources said BJP MPs also supported the opposition to discuss issues like the role of the Governor on the floor of the House.

As per rule for raising short duration discussion under rule 193 of the 'Lok Sabha Rules', any member desirous of raising discussion on a matter of urgent public importance may give notice in writing to the Secretary-General specify clearly and precisely the matter to be raised. Under this rule, the government urged all parties to discuss pollution and climate change on Tuesday.

Earlier during the all-party meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, Trinamool Congress leader Sudip Bandopadhyay raised the functioning of the incumbent Governor of West Bengal Jagdeep Dhankhar and complained to Union home minister Amit Shah. However, in spite of targeting any specific one, the parties demanded to discuss the issue extensively.

Besides, Modi said the issue of unemployment should be discussed, while opposition raised concerns over the economic slowdown and job loss among other issues.

On the other side, on the first day of the winter session of the Parliament, Shiv Sena walked out of the Lok Sabha over the agrarian distress in Maharashtra. TMC along with other parties, including Shiv Sena gave notice to the Chairman of Rajya Sabha, M Venkaiah Naidu also, seeking a discussion on 'Economic Crisis in India and how to improve the situation'.
