NCR team bags silver in men's cross country championship

New Delhi: For the first time, the Men's Cross Country team of North Central Railway has bagged Silver medal in the All India Inter-Railway Cross Country Championship held in Modern Coach Factory (MCF), Rail Bareilly.

The team comprising of VK Pal, Vausdev Nishad, Raj Kumar Singh, Haribax Singh, Ajayveer Singh and V K Rai achieved this milestone for the Zonal Railway in the championship held in MCF on December 5. In the Women's section, Nandini Gupta of NCR bagged the silver medal. By virtue of this performance, Nandini, along with her team-mate Kavita Yadav (who stood 5th) was also selected to represent Indian Railways in the All India (Open) Cross Country Championship which is yet to be held.

Cross Country running is an especially gruelling event in which the participants have to run 10 kilometre and is a test of both the strength and stamina of the participants. Speaking on the achievement, General Secretary (Sports), North Central Railway Sports Association (NCRSA), Gaurav Krishna Bansal said that NCRSA is continuously trying to develop its sportsmen by giving them superior facilities and taking care of them, enabling ever-improved performances.

Congratulating the team for their sterling performance, General Manager, North Central Railway, Rajiv Chaudhry and said, "We are extremely proud of our athletes who have won laurels for the NCR for the first time in this

particular discipline of athletics and are hopeful that they will go on to win medals for Indian Railways in the

All India (Open) Championship also."

The team was accompanied in the Championship by Coach Shri Mahesh Yadav and Manger Shri Dheeraj.
