Huge quantity of substandard helmets seized by BIS team

NEW DELHI: The new motor vehicles Act has enhanced the penalties for defying traffic rules, hence the need for helmets has gone up and so is the manufacture of helmets without valid BIS certification marks. To check this the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Delhi Branch Office-I conducted an enforcement raid on September 11 at Village Karawal Nagar Industrial Area, Delhi.

It was found that the firm was manufacturing helmets without having valid BIS Certification Marks Licence under the brand name "SUNGUARD" with spurious Licence violating Section 17 (3) of BIS Act 2016 which is a punishable offence.

The raid team also seized huge quantity of helmets with spurious BIS Certification Marks Licence number at

the unit.
