Delhi, Dhaka decide more rail connectivity projects

New Delhi: India and Bangladesh have decided to enhance the railway connectivity between two neighbouring countries during a delegation-level

meeting held between Rail Minister Piyush Goel and visiting Bangladesh Minister Nurul Islam Sujan at Rail Bhavan on Tuesday.

After the meeting, Goel announced that frequency of Kolkata –Dhaka Moitree Express and Kolkata –Khiulna Bandhan Express would be increased to facilitate growing demand

from passengers of both the countries.

Bangladesh Minister Sujan told reporters that they had proposed to increase the frequency of journey of Moitree Express from existing four days a week to six days in a week, while the frequency of Bandhan

Express was proposed to be increased from present

one-day in a week to three days in a week.

In response to it, India's Rail Minister Goel said that officials of the two countries would finalise the details very soon. He also announced that Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to visit India in coming October and during that time PM Narendra Modi and his counterpart would announce some major joint initiatives on connectivity.

"Today in the meeting preliminary discussions were held about new connectivity between port city of Chittagong and North eastern states of India. Next-year a bridge over Feni river would be

completed and after that India has planned to run a train over the river in future," he said.

Goel further said that during the visit of Bangladesh PM, many more connectivity projects would be announced by both the PMs.

"The idea is to create a win-win situation for both the countries. More trade related connectivity would be taken up so that people of both countries are benefitted," he said.

In response to announcements made by Goel, Bangladesh Minister Sujan said that main aim of his visit was to congratulate New Indian

government under PM Modi who has taken up development as main motto and at the same time wanted to congratulate India's one of the most able minister Goel.
