Chhattisgarh handloom exhibition attracts women ahead of festive season

New Delhi/ Raipur: "There may be many options in modern dresses to look fashionable but for Indian women no occasion is complete without draping a beautiful saree, which signifies the poise and grace of women. And if it is Kosa silk saree from Chhattisgarh, it adds to the charm," said a woman buyer, who visited the on-going exhibition-cum-sale at Chhattisgarh's State Emporium "Shabri" at Baba Khadak Singh Marg here.

Weavers from Chhattisgarh, especially from Janjgir-Champa district, have put over 50 stalls at the exhibition to cater to the demand of buyers during the festive season. Tussar silk, Ghicha silk, linen, raw silk were some of the materials that are in great demand. The exhibition will conclude on September 13.

"I have heard a lot about Chhattisgarh's 'discharge print' and many varieties of the same are available in the exhibition. A weaver here was telling me that when block printing is done on a saree, one is not sure of the colour it will take. The colour depends on steam and heat from the sun," said a buyer, Prachi.

Proposed discount on the products will surely attract more buyers to the exhibition.
