Bihar police under scanner as land mafia gets VIP security

New Delhi: In a classic example of misuse of security guards with the connivance of local police officials, it has come to notice that an 'imposter' projecting himself as Bihar BJP's spokesperson managed to get security cover equivalent to members of the Parliament or members of legislative assemblies.

The matter came into the light after the 'imposter' Rakesh Singh's bodyguard opened fire on a businessman in the state capital. On inquiry, it was found that Singh had been provided a bodyguard wielding carbine with 70 cartridges for which only MPs or MLAs/MLCs are entitled.

As per the police records, it has been found that over 5,000 policemen have been deployed as bodyguards and house guards of individuals, politicians, businessmen and others. Surprisingly, out of 5,000, over 150 jawans are deployed as bodyguards of those people who have no threat at all.

As per official sources, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has taken special cognizance of the matter and has asked the state DGP to ensure the withdrawn of excess cops after proper review. However, Bihar BJP spokesperson Nikhil Anand said that Singh had never joined the party, nor was he holding any post in the party. The incident has put Patna police under the scanner as a person, who is accused in several cases, 'managed' to secure security cover for him by faking his identity. According to a senior police officer, Singh is a resident of Gaya and accused in several cases related to land grabbing.

"Singh is currently living in Patna and several criminal cases have also lodged against him in different police stations in Patna," the official said, adding that the Patna police had provided him a bodyguard on June 11, 2019 for a period of two months on the ground of 'exceptional reason'.

While talking to Millennium Post, Central range DIG Rajesh Kumar said, "The matter would be investigated as to how and from where the person in question was provided a bodyguard. There are strict provisions for getting bodyguards and strict action would be taken against all those found guilty in the matter."

The gems trader Mukesh Sao, who was hit by imposter's guard in Patna, alleged that Singh's bodyguard fired on him after he demanded his Rs 14 lakh dues from Singh.
