10 killed, 15 others injured in separate road mishaps in Bihar

Patna: At least 10 people were killed and 15 others injured in separate road mishaps in Patna, Darbhanga and Vaishai districts during the last 12 hours.

According to a report from Barh, five people were killed and 15 others injured when a jeep turned turtle and fell into a roadside ditch near Lalpura village under Bhadaur police station area in Patna district late last night.

Police said, five people were killed and 15 others injured when their jeep overturned and fell into the ditch. Sources said that they were returning to Sheikhpura after attending last rites of their relative when the mishap took place.

Police said that the deceased had been identified as Jawahar Sao (55), Surendra Mistri (35), Janardan Sharma (35), Chhotelal Mistri (50) and Sandeep Kumar (25). The bodies have been handed over to the relatives after autopsy, sources added.

A report from Darbhanga said, three people were killed when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding truck near Shahpur roundabout under Mabbi police outpost area in the district today.

Sub divisional police officer Gajendra Prasad Singh said three youths died on the spot when their motorcycle was hit by the truck after its driver lost control over his vehicle due to high speed. The deceased were identified as Amarjeet Paswan (22), Raju Paswan (25) and Badal Paswan (21).

Agitated over the mishap, local people blocked National Highway 57 near Shahpur roundabout in support of their demand for adequate compensation to family members of the deceased.

According to a report from Hajipur, the Mukhia of Ufraul Panchayat Jayelesh Devi (55) was killed when a speeding car hit her while she was sleeping in the verandah of her house under Desri police station area in Vaishali district late last night.

Sources said that two people including the car driver were arrested from the spot. Sources said both of them were drunk.

In another road mishap in the district, a motorcyclist was killed when he was hit by a speeding vehicle near Imadpur village under Bhagwanpur police station area.

Police said here the deceased was identified as Niral Topo (35). The body has been sent for autopsy, sources added.
