Municipal body extends both days and time of Bidhannagar Mela

Keeping in mind the requests made by several traders, the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to extend both the number of days and time of the Bidhannagar Mela. An official said the fair will continue till January 26. As per the previous schedule, the fair was about to conclude on January 18.

Beside visitors, traders those have their stalls in the fair had requested the municipality to extend time. This was the reason why the decision was taken.  Besides increasing the number of days, the fair will remain open for one more hour every day.

Earlier, the fair, which opens at 2 pm, used to get closed at 9 pm every day. But from Sunday onwards, the fair will remain open till 10 pm. Traders are happy with the decision as they expect that it will help them to get a good business in the fair. They expect that the decision to extent time by an hour will help people, who return a bit late, to visit the fair.

Everyday hundreds of people visit the fair. The traders expect that more people will visit the fair after the extension of time.

Debika Majumder, who visited the fair, said: “My sister stays in Mumbai. She is returning to the city on Tuesday. She had wished to visit the fair once. Now her wish will be fulfilled.”

Manas Palit, who was found selling handmade bags in the fair, said: “The business in the fair was quite good and it will be better as it will continue for more days.”

Many traders have plans to set up their stalls in fairs in some other place after January 18. But they have changed their plan and they will continue doing their business here in Bidhannagar Mela.
