MP govt to enact law to give land to homeless people born in state

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday said the state government will bring in a legislation to provide land to all the people who are born in the state but don't have a house due to financial constraints.

"With my arms raised, I announce here that a law is going to be enacted to provide a piece of land to every resident born in the state," he said at a rally at Jamhori Maidan here.

The event was organised to 'educate' people on welfare schemes of the BJP government. Chouhan completed 11 years in the office five days ago.

"I won't let anybody to be landless in MP," he said.

The Bill, to provide land to every resident of the state who does not own a house, would be introduced in the budget session of the Assembly, he said, adding this was a first such initiative in the country.

"Unfortunately, many people don't either have land or house which forces them to live by the roadside. This is why I will ensure that everyone has land," he said.

Government land would be distributed on lease under the scheme, and the government would also buy additional land for the purpose, he said.

A survey of urban and rural areas would be conducted and if enough land is not available in any area, the homeless people will be provided flats in multi-storied buildings, he said.
