Missing girls' case to be reopened

After delaying for over a month, the district authorities in Ghaziabad has initiated an inquiry into the case of six girls missing from a patronage house in Kavinagar area of the city. The authorities came into action only after MP from Ghaziabad voiced his concern on the matter and told to raise the matter in the Parliament.

'We have registered the case and police teams have been deployed to investigate and trace the girls,' said Prashant Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police in Ghaziabad. The six girls residing in the government patronage house in Kavinagar area disappeared last month but police did not register the case. When the matter was raised by several civil society activists before police and administration, it was of no avail.

The district magistrate has also ordered an inquiry into the matter. 'An inquiry into the matter of six missing girls from government woman patronage house has been ordered,' said Aparna Upadhay, District Magistrate of Ghaziabad.

Earlier, Mamta Sharma, Chairperson of National Commission for Women (NCW), during her visit to the city in a function has also said that an inquiry would be initiated into the matter. Sharma was in the city to attend a function organised by a city based NGO for women empowerment and awareness against sex determination.

On Sunday, a group of concerned people met with MP Rajnath Singh during his area visit and requested him to intervene into the matter. Singh had words with the police and administration and assured them to raise the matter in the current session of the house.
