Minor girl bludgeoned to death by rickshaw-puller in W Delhi

A two-and-half-year-old girl was allegedly beaten to death by a rickshawpuller, who hit her head against the floor of a temple at West Delhi’s Ranhola area on Monday afternoon, claiming that the child was possessed by spirits.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Amit Kumar (28), allegedly abducted the minor girl from her house on Monday at around 11.15 am and took her to a temple 100 metres away from her residence where he allegedly smashed her head injuring her grievously. Police said that the girl’s parents, who work as labourers in the nearby area, were in the meantime, searching for their daughter in the area and had also made a PCR call.

A senior cop said that the father of the child found her lying on the temple floor and took her to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead.

A team of local police reached the temple and arrested the accused who is apparently a believer in ghosts and black magic. The cop said that the  accused has not spoken much during questioning. But he has claimed that he can see ghosts and understand their language. He is claiming that he felt that the girl was possessed and he hit her against the floor in order to rid her of negative spirits.

He added: “In the preliminary probe, it appears that he is mentally sick.” Cops are waiting for the autopsy report of the deceased to determine whether the accused had sexually assaulted her or not.
