Mentally unstable man held for brandishing daggers

A person carrying two daggers, threatening people around him, was apprehended by the Delhi Police from the Lutyen’s Zone on Tuesday afternoon. He was found to be mentally unstable.

The incident took place on September 29 around 1 pm when a man was present outside the UK High Commission with two daggers and was threatening people.

Without giving a second thought, policemen overpowered him and seized his daggers.

Sanjay (name changed) hails from Bhubaneswar. According to him, he had applied for a visa but the UK Commission was neither responding nor giving back his passport.

“The person claimed that he was working for a private bank and was transferred to the UK in 2006. As part of his job, he stayed there till 2010 but due to some civil proceedings, he was deported back to India,” said Jatin Narwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi).

“On verification, we found that he was lying. After we called up his family members, we came to know he was deranged and has a history of violent behaviour.

“He was sent for a medical assessment to RML hospital and was declared mentally unstable.”

“He was produced at the Patiala Court and has been sent to the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) for treatment,” Narwal added.
