Mayor’s visit exposes ‘ailing’ East

In her first surprise inspection of health facilities, the Mayor of East Delhi was faced with below the par health facilities and infrastructure in a major hospital run by the corporation. Besides complaints against doctors and paramedics she also encountered an out of order lift, improper sanitation, and shortage of staff.

'We will carry out such surprise inspections of various departments to improve efficiency and provide better services for people,' said Annapurna Mishra, Mayor of East Delhi Corporation (EDMC) after visiting Swami Dayanand Hospital. She was accompanied by EDMC commissioner S S Yadav and senior officials of health department. Mayor inspected the wards and OPD of the hospital and interacted with patients.

Mishra also interacted interacted with medical and paramedical staff of the hospital to know their work related problems. 'They complained about shortage of doctors and paramedical staff, which have become the main hurdle in handling the heavy inflow of patients. I have directed the officials concerned to take necessary action on priority basis,' added Mishra.

During her visit, the Mayor also showed her displeasure at poor sanitation and the non working lift. She directed the officials concerned to take necessary actions in this regard and to improve the patient care system. Mayor and Commissioner also visited the newly constructed building block and directed the officials concerned to move into the new building by 31 July.

'It was a good experience for me to interact with the Mayor and the senior officials of the corporation and convey my grievances directly to them. This was her first visit, I hope the situation will improve shortly,' said Mohan Lal, whose wife was admitted in the hospital.
