Marijuana worth Rs 2.5 cr seized, one arrested

Around four quintals of marijuana, estimated around Rs 2.5 crore in the international market, was seized from a house in Palam Village on Saturday. A 22-year-old man has been arrested.

The police said the arrested, Pankaj, is the son of a proclaimed bad character, <g data-gr-id="21">Balkesh</g> (54), whose house was raided, said DCP (South-west) RA Sanjeev. The police conducted the raid at a tip-off that a huge consignment of liquor was to arrive at the house. A trap was laid and policemen saw a mini truck approaching towards the house. Pankaj and the vehicle’s driver started unloading sacks from the vehicle. When the police approached them, the duo fled on a motorbike.

While Pankaj fell and was arrested, the driver – <g data-gr-id="20">Shiraj</g> Ahmed Ansari –managed to flee. Pankaj has been arrested under the NDPS Act. “We are trying to track the source of the consignment. This is the largest marijuana recovery this year,” Sanjeev said.
