Man, who keeps CAG in news, demits office

The man, who made Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India remain in news, has demitted the office of media advisor to the CAG. BS Chauhan had been working as media advisor from April 2010 under Vinod Rai and Shashi Kant Sharma. Chauhan has also worked as publicity officer in the Election Commission with TN Seshan.

It’s pertinent to mention here that it was Chauhan who had advised Seshan to enforce the rules enacted in the Election Commission Act 1991 in the assembly elections of Bihar and general elections. Similarly, Chauhan, who had a vast experience of handling press, had advised Rai to provide all relevant information of 2G scam to mediapersons.

Working in the CAG institution and Election Commission has been his most challenging and fulfilling period. It was Chauhan’s media friendly approach which resulted in opening the gates to the press by these two institutions which had no go area for the media.

Prior to his tenure in CAG, Chauhan worked as Additional DG in Ministry of Finance and oversaw seven union budgets under Finance Ministers P Chidambaram and Pranab Mukherjee. He has also worked on deputation in PMO with four Prime Ministers -- PV Narasimha Rao, IK Gujral, HD Deve Gowda and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Chauhan belonged to 1980 batch of Indian Economic Service and then joined Indian Information Service in 1983. The search and selection process for a suitable successor of Chauhan has been initiated by the CAG.
