Man held in connection with woman’s murder in Sonarpur

The police on Monday arrested a man identified as Malay Majumdar, in connection with the murder of Dwipannita Mukhopadhyay, whose body was recovered from a flat at Harihartala in Sonarpur on Friday. The flat belongs to her brother. Majumdar, who is a resident of Patuli, confessed that he had killed her as she used to blackmail him.

Mukhopadhyay, who was a resident of Netajinagar, went to see her ailing relative at Salt Lake on Thursday. As she did not return home, her husband lodged a complaint at police station. The police said as per the version of caretaker, she came to the flat on Thursday afternoon. In the evening, a person came to see her posing as her relative.

The police said there were no electricity as well as furniture in the flat. So police are still trying to find out what she was doing in that empty flat. However, police suspect that her relationship with several people led to such incident.
