Man gets life for murder

A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Delhi court for stabbing a labourer to death in 2009 in a drunken brawl. For killing labourer Bharat Chaudhary, Additional Sessions Judge Gulshan Kumar also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on Delhi resident Shambhu Shah. ‘The prosecution has successfully proved its case beyond reasonable doubt against the accused. Accordingly, accused Shambhu Shah is convicted of the offence under section 302 (murder) of the IPC,’ ASJ Kumar said. According to the prosecution, Chaudhary’s wife had lodged a complaint against her neighbour Shambhu Shah and his nephew Saroj Shah, accusing them of killing her husband in a brawl after consuming liquor on 17 April  night near their houses at Rangpuri Extension. She said the three started fighting after having liquor and when she came out hearing the noise, she saw Shambhu had caught hold of her husband and was asking Saroj to teach him a lesson. The police told the court that Saroj took out a vegetable knife and stabbed Chaudhary in his chest and pushed Kamlawati aside and both the accused fled away from the spot. The deceased’s wife said her husband succumbed to injuries the next morning after which the police was called in and a complaint was lodged.
