Man from Bankura held for molesting college girl
Police arrested a city-based engineer on Monday for molesting a college girl. The accused engineer was booked on Monday and interrogated. Later, he was produced before the court.
Investigation revealed that the accused had opened an account on a social networking website concealing his true identity. He had begun chatting with the girl about six months ago.
Later, he took her phone number and started to chat via a popular messaging service. He invited the girl to a hotel, where he allegedly molested her.
Later, the engineer clicked some photographs of the girl without her permission and posted them on the website he befriended her through.
The family of the girl contacted the engineer and requested him to delete those pictures from the website and not to contact the girl again. The accused, however, allegedly paid no heed to the requests made by the family and started to circulate the pictures via different social networking websites.
The parents then lodged a complaint with the local police station. Based on the complaint, police began a case and eventually arrested the engineer from his residence.
“The accused is a resident of Bankura. He was a student of a reputed engineering college and got a job in a software company in 2013,” an investigating officer said.
The victim’s family had lodged the complaint with the Kolkata Police’s cyber crime department after somebody posted derogatory comments in her timeline regarding the photos.
In a similar case, a minor girl was allegedly molested at Nadia’s Majhdia after she went to meet a youth whom she had befriended through a social networking website.
The girl, along with her younger sister, had gone to meet the accused at a deserted place near their house. The youth allegedly molested her, while her sister ran from there and informed the neighbours. The youth was later arrested.
