Man attempts suicide on Metro tracks

Metro service was disrupted for nearly one hour after a middle aged man attempted suicide at Sovabazar Metro station on Wednesday morning. Police said that the victim whose identity is yet to be ascertained jumped before a Dum Dum bound rake while it was entering Sovabazar at around 9.40 am on Wednesday. The driver of the train had applied emergency brake and stopped the train. 

The incident triggered panic among the passengers who were standing at the platform to board a train. The RPF and Metro personnel rescued the victim and took him to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The victim had sustained some injuries on his body. The metro service was resumed at around 10.40 am. The commuters were seriously inconvenienced as the incident took place at the rush hour. Many of the passengers took buses to reach their offices.

According to a Metro official the victim was saved due to the alertness of the driver of the train. On Tuesday evening another incident of suicide attempt had taken place at Rabindra Sarovar station. A youth who attempted suicide on Tuesday evening survived as the driver applied emergency brake and managed to stop the train. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital.
