Mamata's team cheers KKR

While KKR co-owner Juhi Chawla expressed her desire to meet 'Mamata-ji' with the IPL cup even before the toss was called, there was almost an unwritten law in the Trinamool camp on Sunday night - roar for the home team, KKR. While senior cabinet minister Subrata Mukherjee watched the match at his south Kolkata residence, TMC MLA Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay was busy finishing a protest campaign against the fuel price hike in his own constituency (Rashbehari) before the match begun.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who hit the streets on Saturday evening to protest against the hike in fuel prices, had apparently asked her party leaders to campaign against the price hike in their respective constituencies. 'Didi will be monitoring the protest activities from her Kalighat home. However, she is sure to catch the cricket action in between,' said Chattopadhyay, drenched from Sunday evening's shower.

Banerjee had previously congratulated the KKR boss, Shah Rukh Khan, also Bengal's brand ambassador, on making it to the IPL finals. 'I think KKR is now synonymous with Kolkata. So there are a lot of emotions attached to this match — Kolkata will win if KKR wins. And we will be able to prove to the world that Kolkata isn't a narrow, parochial city which rejects people who come from other parts of India,' said veteran artist Suvaprasanna, known to be a close associate of the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Another TMC MLA, singer Anup Ghosal, who is an avid cricket fan, stayed glued to his telly the minute he got free from a party programme. 'I do think the chances are 50:50. KKR and CSK both have well balanced teams but if you ask about my feelings I do think that I will back KKR all the way. It is unfortunate though that Sourav Gaguly is not a part of the team though,' rued Ghosal.

MP Shatabdi Roy was also fervently praying for the home team to win on Sunday night. 'KKR represents Kolkata in this series. I am certainly hoping that they will bring home the trophy,' she said.
