Mamata to release autobiography of scholar Sankari Prasad Basu

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will release an autobiography of famous Vivekananda scholar Sankari Prasad Basu at the Kolkata Book Fair on January 25.

Swami Suhitananda, general secretary Ramakrishna Math and Mission will also be present on the occasion. Banerjee had over and again expressed her deep respect for Basu as a scholar.

The autobiography entitled “Ramakrishna Sarada Vivekanande Nibedito amar jibon amar gobeshona” depicts Basu’s rational mind to carry out research on the trio.

Shankari Prasad Basu was the Ramtanu Lahiri professor of Calcutta University. A scholar par excellence, Basu’s books on Vaisnav philosophy are unique. 

Basu’s books on cricket, namely ‘Lal Ball Larwood’, ‘Ramaniyo Cricket’, ‘Eden e shiter dupur’ and ‘Cricket Omnibas’ were very popular in the 1960s and 1970s. He got Sahatiya Akademi Award for his monumental work on Vivekananda, “Vivekananda O Samakalin Bharatbarshya”. 

A student of Howrah Vivekananda Institution, he came in contacts with the monks of the Ramakrishna Mission at a yung age. 

A very popular teacher of Calcutta University, he was respected by all for his rational mind and sharp sense of humour.
