Make all student services online: West Bengal minister

Following the success of online undergraduate admissions across West Bengal, the state government has told colleges and universities to bring online all important services for students.

The government favoured and was encouraging institutions to provide all student-related services online, West Bengal’s Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said on Friday evening after chairing the 51st meeting of the reconstituted state higher education council.

“For example, issuing registration certificates, admit cards, etc., and other such services offered by the colleges should be done online. We have stressed on that,” Chatterjee said.

Also discussed at the meeting, attended by the represenatives of 12 varsities, was the issue of attendance of students and the faculty, the student-teacher relationship, and hike in the salaries of part-time teachers.

“Part-time teachers will get a 25 percent hike in pay, but their workload will also increase. Salaries of contractual teachers will be increased by 10 percent,” the minister said. This was Chatterjee’s first meeting as the council’s chairperson.
