Madan Mitra’s bail plea rejected

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Sougata Roy Chowdhury passed the order after Mitra’s counsel pressed for bail stating that the former state minister has been in jail for the last 19 months but there was no progress in the investigation by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the case.

Stating that Mitra’s detention was “only for the sake of detention”, his counsel also pointed out that five supplementary charge sheets have been so far been filed in connection with the scam but none had a single line on the TMC leader’s role in it.

In the bail plea, his counsel also stressed that Mitra was currently like any common man because he was no more a minister, did not hold any post in the cabinet nor in TMC and thus he could not be an “influential person”.
