LoP asks LG to inquire advocate appointments by AAP govt

The only thing that went in favour of the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the judgment of Delhi high court on Friday was the appointment of advocates but BJP has now demanded the LG to order inquiry into these appointments.

“The precious public exchequer is being squandered by the CM for his upmanship. As a Leader of Opposition, I am being denied the information regarding engagement of advocates and case-wise payments made to the lawyers,” said Vijender Gupta alleging crores are being paid to the senior advocates by the Delhi government.

“I urge the LG to constitute a High Level Inquiry Committee to probe into the engagement of large number of advocates and payment of crores of rupees as fees to them,” he added. He claimed that he wrote several letters to the Chief Secretary for providing information on the fee paid to the advocates but he did not provide the information so far. “The AAP government is deliberately hiding information on payments made to lawyers,” alleged Gupta. He also alleged that payment to contractual lawyers and salary to prosecutors were hiked to around 600 per cent to benefit lawyers associated with AAP.
