Lokshilpa O Karukriti mela to be held today

West Bengal State Akademi of Dance Drama Music and Visual Arts of Rabindra Bharati University will organise Lokshilpa O Karukriti mela on Friday. Eminent theatre personality Rudraprasad Sengupta will inaugurate the fair. It may be recalled that Mamata Banerjee has urged all the universities and other institutions to organise such fairs to help the artisans to sell their products. The products are being sold through Biswa Banga shops and the state government is planning to open its branches in other countries to showcase the products.

There will be 60 artists, craftsmen and weavers from different districts. The attractive art and craft items including patachitras, mats and decorative items made of coarse grass and Buffalo horns from West Midnapore will be exhibited. There will stalls selling traditional puppets that are found in South 24 Parganas. Shitalpatis from Cooch Behar, Chau dance masks from Purulia and clay dolls from Nadia districts will be exhibited. The internationally acclaimed Dokra arts and Terrakota from Bankura district will be on display. The famous wooden masks and bamboo crafts from South Dinajpur district will have their berth in the exhibition.

The Akademi has made arrangement for the stay of the artisans, weavers and craftsmen and it will ensure that they will get benefit from the sales proceeds.
