LeT planned terror strikes in city on 4 August: Subhan tells police

Abdul Subhan, a suspected LeT Operative and a trend-setter of Mal-e-Ganimat had planned a series of terror strikes on 4 August in the national Capital just ahead of the Independence Day. To execute the same, he came to Delhi and was nabbed.

During interrogation, he told the investigators of Delhi Police Special Cell about the planning of a series of terror strikes in Delhi in the near future. Sources said: ‘Subhan was tasked with a specific job in Mewat to identify youths with religious mindset to join Lashkar. The recent recruitment was made to carry out terror attacks in Delhi.’

Subhan claimed that his new mission did not involve any particular target but added that
they wanted to send a strong message to the Indian government by carrying out blasts in the Capital.

Subhan further told the police that he used to visit Mewat and Delhi very frequently.

On 20 July, while boarding a bus from Delhi to Mewat he was nabbed by Delhi Police Special Cell from Sarai Kale Khan bus terminal.

Revealing his tainted past, when he was an arms supplier for the ISI, he confessed that he was the mastermind behind introducing the concept of Mal-e-Ganimat, the money accumulated from kidnappings and robberies.

Later, the concept of Mal-e-Ganimat was followed by other terror outfits including Indian Mujahideen (IM).

Pakistan is supposed to have stopped funding these outfits as the top brass was not following their instructions.

The operatives were compelled to generate the money on their own.

‘The reports on the recruitment list was supposed to be sent to Jawed Baluchi, operative hiding in Karachi.

‘The calls between Subhan and Baluchi were intercepted by the central intelligence agencies and the Delhi police,’ the source added.

Sources in Special Cell also claimed that calls were exchanged between Pakistan and the inmates lodged in Kolkata jail.

Few of Subhan’s accomplices are lodged in Alipur Jail in Kolkata. It is the same jail where Subhan was lodged for 10 years when he was arrested for supplying RDX and AK-47 rifles. But later he was released in 2010 due to his good conduct.
