Lawyer alleges pvt school of charging EWS student

A lawyer has alleged that GD Goenka group’s school in Sarita Vihar is charging an EWS (Economically Weaker Section) student for mid-day meals, dress and books.

The school has allegedly demanded Rs 11,030 for books and school-uniform from a EWS girl student of nursery and Rs 1500 per month for mid-day meal, prompting Ashok Agarwal, social jurist and president of All India Parents Association, to write a letter to the principal asking not to violate norms.

“It appears that your school has failed to appreciate the true objective of the EWS admission provision, which is to remove the financial barrier in education. Charging money from a EWS student defeats the very object and purpose behind the provision,” said Agarwal. In his hard hitting letter to the principal, Agarwal has argued that the state-reimbursement for EWS students is inclusive of all expenditure.

“The school has demanded Rs 4,500 per quarter for providing mid day meal which translates to Rs 60 per day if school is opened for 25 days in a month,” added Agarwal. The father of the kid somehow, managed to pay Rs. 3,030 for books but approached the jurist when asked to cough up more to save the ‘future’ of his daughter.
