Lady Gaga to star opposite Bradley Cooper in A Star Is Born

Songstress Lady Gaga has bagged the lead role opposite Hollywood star Bradley Cooper in the upcoming remake of 1937 film A Star Is Born. The good news for 30-year-old Gaga doesn’t end here as it has been announced that the Golden Globe Award winner will compose and perform new music for the film, reported Deadline.

Her character’s name is kept under wraps, but she will star as the ingenue singer whose career rises as quickly as her troubled lover/mentor’s career is fading. It will be the Golden Globe Award winner’s first starring role in a major studio feature and Cooper’s directorial debut. The 1937 romantic drama, directed by William A Wellman and starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, centered on a troubled movie star who helps an aspiring young actor find fame. Warner Bros president of Creative Development and Worldwide Production Greg Silverman has announced that the deal has been closed.

“For those of us lucky enough to watch him work as an actor and producer, it has been clear that Bradley would make this transition to director,” says Silverman. “We are honored that he is doing it, here, at his home - Warner Bros - and with Lady Gaga as a collaborator and co-star. The world is in for a treat as these great artists craft an all new vision of ‘A Star is Born’.”  Production will begin early next year in California and Cooper, 41, will direct the new take from a screenplay written by 2012’s The Lucky One and 2014’s The Best of Me scribe Will Fetters.
