Kunal Ghosh’s claim of murder threat baseless, says court

A city court on Friday said suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh’s claim of murder threats to him by inmates of Presidency Correctional Home were “baseless” and remanded him to 13-day judicial custody in the Saradha chit fund scam.

Metropolitan Magistrate 21st Court at City Sessions Court Arvind Mishra remanded Ghosh to judicial custody till December 3.

Main accused and Saradha Group chairman Sudipta Sen, his close associate Debjani Mukherjee were also remanded to judicial custody till December 3.

The court had earlier this month ordered a report from the correctional home authorities on Ghosh’s health condition after he started a hunger strike on October 10 and on his allegation of being threatened with murder by co-prisoners.

He called off his fast on November 17 ‘temporarily’ after a city court decided to review his appeal of a fair probe into the scam.

Ghosh’s mother too had filed an FIR earlier this week alleging that the jail authorities and other prisoners have been torturing her son and threatening to kill him. In her complaint, she also named a couple of officials at the correctional home and urged that they be adequately punished.
