Youth thrashed by promoter's men, two held

A youth was beaten up by a promoter's men at Kolkata's Entally area after he refused to give away his house. Police arrested two persons in connection with the case.

The promoter demanded the top floor of Mohammad Shahid's house to set up an illegal construction there. Shahid refused straightway after consulting with the tenants.

Angry with Shahid's approach, the accused promoter Mahammad Javed sent his men to beat him up.

Those men fired towards Shahid but the bullet missed the target.

Later, those men caught Shahid at Chhatubabu Lane and thrashed him there. Shahid received injuries on his forehead, chest and back. Police learnt that the assailants had hit him with a revolver's butt.

The local residents took him to National Medical College and Hospital. He was admitted there in critical condition.

However, police arrested two persons who were interrogated. Mahammad Javed, the accused promoter fled after the incident.

Entally area has become the den of such criminals. These kinds of incidents have taken place in the area earlier as well.

It should be recalled that a promoter was shot and critically injured in a party faction fight over a piece of land in Entally in 2015. According to police, five to eight local anti-socials, considered close to a builder, sought out Mahammad Mustaqin alias Bablu around 11.05pm and shot him three times.

It will also be recalled that in another incident, a 22-year-old youth, who dared to protest against "loud noise and vulgar dancing" in a residential locality in the middle of the night, was stabbed to death at Entally. His killer was a local promoter and his men.
