Youth shot at by miscreants at Gobardanga

Kolkata: Tension cropped up at Gobardanga after a youth was shot by miscreants in front of local residents in North 24-Parganas on Monday morning. When the local residents tried to stop the miscreants, they allegedly took the injured youth with them.

Later on Monday afternoon, a youth's body with bullet injury was found adjacent to a canal in Baduria. It is suspected that the deceased youth is the person who was shot on Monday morning at Gobardanga.

According to sources, on Monday morning, the youth was passing through Khatura on a bike. Four persons on two bikes blocked his way and forced him to get down from his bike. Soon, an altercation broke out between them and suddenly one of the four shot the youth on his chest.

The youth fell on the ground and one of the miscreants ran away.

Other three somehow managed to flee from the spot along with the injured youth on their bikes. It is alleged while fleeing, one of the miscreants again fired another round to create panic.

Local residents narrated the whole incident to police officers, who seized the bike which was being driven by the youth. Till Monday night, the police failed to find the miscreants and the injured youth.

On Monday afternoon, almost after two hours of the shootout in Gobardanga, the body of a youth was found beside the Umapati canal in Baduria.

It is suspected that the youth, whose body was found in Baduria, is the victim of Gobardanga shootout.

However, till Monday night, the police were not sure if both the incidents are linked. One person has been detained at Gobardanga police station in connection with the shootout case.
