Youth arrested over derogatory remark on Marwari community

Kolkata: A 28-year-old youth was arrested at Phoolbagan on Wednesday on charges of passing derogatory comment on the Marwari community, while taking part in a debate conducted by a news channel.

The youth had passed a comment on the community while reacting about the visit of the Central teams to the state.

Condemning the incident, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday retweeted a tweet of All India Trinamool Congress, stating: "Disappointing that fringe individual ideas are masqueraded as party views. We strongly object to such comments. Bengal is 2nd home for the Marwari community. AITC believes in preserving an all-inclusive Bengali culture where every community has an equal stake in it."

Trinamool Congress MP Mohua Maitra also condemned the same. She stated in a tweet: "Strongly condemn Republic TV show last night where guest from WB used sickening language. Trinamool does NOT send spokespersons to Republic TV. Unethical TV channel uses random persons calling them 'TMC supporters' to mislead viewers. Sick & disgusting - get a life, people!"
