Yaba tablets worth Rs 1 crore seized, 3 arrested

Kolkata: The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police nabbed three persons with huge quantities of amphetamines, commonly known as 'Yaba', in tablet form. According to police, on Wednesday morning, the STF officials were tipped-off about three persons arriving in a car with narcotic substances to reach a destination in the city.

Acting on the information, STF personnel started keeping an eye on the Madurdaha-Choubhaga Road in Anandapur. Around 10:05 am, police spotted the car and intercepted it. Three persons including the driver were arrested.

During a preliminary search, police found several packets containing 'Yaba' tablets. The trio was later taken to STF police station in Lalbazar where they were interrogated as well as the number of tablets was counted. It was found that they were carrying one lakh 'Yaba' tablets in 50 packets. The seized narcotic substances are worth Rs 1 crore approximately. All the three accused, identified as Meher Ali, Serajul Sheikh and Indrajit Das are from North 24-Parganas. The prime accused who was to deliver the 'Yaba' tablets to Bangladesh is Ali. He is a notorious drug peddler and has been arrested several times on earlier occasions. Cops are interrogating them to know from whom and where they had procured the tablets. Earlier last month, the STF had arrested five persons and seized huge quantity of 'Yaba' tablets on two occasions.
